NEWBURGH PRIORY

Originally 1145 with major alterations in 1568 and 1720. There is a collection of works of art etc, including paintings, watercolours, furniture (mainly Georgian English), silverware and ceramics. Artists represented include Romney, Lely, Gainsborough, Munnings, Soldi, Cotman and Brangwyn.

Directions: 4m east of A19, 18m N of York, 1/2m S of Coxwold. For details of opening times please refer to the website link shown. Public Access also available along existing bridleways & existing rights of way. Extensive grounds contain a water garden, walled garden, topiary yews and woodland walks, also historic contents of a house that has been family home for many generations.

The owner's binding undertakings

The owners undertake that until the property is disposed of, whether by sale or gift or otherwise, reasonable steps will be taken for the maintenance and repair of the property, preservation of its character and for securing reasonable access to the public. To observe the terms and conditions of the Newburgh Priory Estate Heritage Status Management Plan insofar as they relate to the property. To provide appropriate publicity of the public access arrangements; in respect of Newburgh Priory, public access will be advertised in the publication 'Historic Houses open to the Public' and the English Tourist Board will be informed of the arrangements. To notify IR/Capital Taxes immediately possession of the property is relinquished whether by sale, gift or otherwise.
