Muncaster Castle

is a Grade I listed castle dating back to the 13th Century overlooking the Eskdale Valley and Western Lake District. It has been in the same family, the Pennington family, for 800 years. The castle incorporates a 14th Century pele tower built on Roman foundations. It features grand state rooms, including a Great Hall and Tapestry Room. The estate includes extensive gardens with woodland, terraces and a Hawk and Owl Centre. It features many historical objects is associated with local legends, such as "The Luck of Muncaster", a Venetian glass bowl belonging to Henry IV, said to protect the family.
